My WII Play

Should I remove my Homebrew Channel and uninstall DVDX or should I keep it since Im not that much of a modder?

I use Homebrew Channel as a DVD player to play movies, I use GeckoOS to play hacked Super Smash Brothers Brawl by changing the textures of the characters and the stages and I use it to play N64 and GBA games. I don’t use it that often, but I did try to install cIOS once but it was unsuccessful, do you think that since there was an error before the installation ended meant that it un-installed everything that it tried to install before because I’m thinking about removing everything homebrew/dvdx related and updating to 4.2 since I want the Wii Shop Channel + I’m afraid that my Wii might brick and I’ll lose all my save memory and won’t be able to play my Wii. Should I just do a Bootmii backup or should I completely remove homebrew from my Wii?

I haven’t heard of anyone getting bricked from updating to 4.2 but people getting their mods removed. I heard of programs out there to update your other channels. Im not sure why you would possibly want the Wii Shop channel if everything there you could just find on the net ( quite easily if your in the right places) for free.

Or

Remove everything, update everything to 4.2 and then re-install. This time just install HBC and DVDX and maybe a few loaders.

Im not much of a modder either and I don’t see Wii-modding “that big of a deal”. It was fun modding my Xbox 1 ( and tedious ) , because that seemed like real modding;actually having to unscrew my Xbox, look at it’s hard drive and motherboards, run to my computer, hook them up and hot swap, then transfer stuff. That was fun but I guess I was also 13 at the time. I even made a website and video on Xbox modding and burning games

Banner bomb for Wii seemed just to easy, just downloading files onto an sd card and running it on the wii. That’s it? Compared to the hours on end with my xbox trial and errors and things I learned oh and the few games i got to play. Halo Ce and Halo 2 were really fun.
