Do HD Cables for Nintendo Wii enhance the picture?
I currently have a 1080p Resolution HDTV. I was thinking about getting gold plated 480p resolution HD Cables for my wii. The HD Cables descriptions says it enhances sound and picture. I am not worried about the sound but since the cables are 480p and my HDTV is 1080p would it decrease the picture to 480p or would it enhance the picture by 480p making it 1080p+480p=1560p?????
Jake, the cables will bring it to 480p, not enhance your resolution beyond that. I have an LCD HDTV and the addition of the component cables is noticeable. The other reviewers are correct – it does not make it look at good as 720 or 1080, but it does improve the picture. As for the cable types, I would not invest in ‘gold plated’ cables or other gimmicky cable sells. Many AV experts agree that standard cables and connectors are generally just as good as premium cables (with some exceptions of course). Given the 480p max, I cannot imagine a premium cable would be a noted improvement. I have the NYKO cables – they work great, and only cost around 35.00 versus the more expensive types. I believe you can find them at your local Target, and certainly at a GameStop. Buying the standard cable for a picture improvement is well worth it — buying expensive cables, however, is probably not. Good luck!
