When in 2008 will the new Nintendo Wii that is capable of DVD playback be coming out in North America?
Unmodified Wiis don’t play DVDs; that’s something that most players should know by now. Nintendo announced that in 2007, they’d be releasing a new version of Wii that can play DVDs; this was put on hold in order to focus on getting Wiis produced and available for December holidays. Now that December holidays are over, I’m hoping for a nice new Wii with DVD playback.
I know that they can be modified to allow DVD playback, but I’d rather wait for a pure one that hasn’t been violated.
Also, just to answer the many people who love to criticise the idea of using a Wii for DVD playback, we have enough devices and remote controllers as it is, and I would like to keep the number of television connections occupied and remote controllers to be lost at a minimum. In fact, I would like to consolidate all of my devices into one system, if I could. One day…

Nintendo once said they’d be releasing the Wii with DVD capabilities in 2005.
however, they soon changed their minds, in order to cut the cost of the Wii.
and now, they have reassured, they will not be releasing a newer console that features DVD playback.
so basically, they will not be releasing a Wii that plays DVD’s.

so Japan would not get a new Wii before the US.
