Wii Ethernet Connection
Can I connect Wii directly to comcast modem or do i need a router for wired connection to the internet?
I bought the Wii ethernet adapter and hooked it up correctly to the Wii and modem, but when i do the connection test, I get an error code 52020 telling me to reboot my modem..I do and still get the error. How do i fix the problem and set up a wired connection for Wii?
Oftentimes, more than simply plugging in is needed in order to get connected to the internet with broadband modems. Many broadband services will utilize what’s known as PPPoE. Basically, this means that you must “dial in” (but over ethernet instead of using the phone line) and provide a username and password to the ISP (internet service provider) before it will allow you to connect to the internet.
If your connection does not work from simply plugging in, it is likely that your broadband is a PPPoE connection. You should call your ISP (Comcast) and ask them to make sure. If they say you are on a PPPoE connection, you have a couple options:
1) You can buy a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector to plug into your computer. This will act as a wireless access point so your Wii can connect wirelessly using the internet connection on your computer.
2) You can buy a router that has PPPoE capabilities and plug your Wii into that. However, if your going to be buying a router anyway, you may as well buy a wireless router and not worry with a wired connection.
