– I doubt there will be Wiis on shelves in 5 weeks. In the next two months Nintendo is going release several big things for the Wii. Mario Kart in April, WiiWare, and WiiFit in May. Those will keep the system in demand and hard to find.
– I don’t see the price going anywhere anytime soon. If the system isn’t even in stock because it’s it demand, why lower the price? I couldn’t imagine the Wii getting a price drop before next year at the earliest. It’ll be $249.99 US retail for awhile.
– Every store should sell just the Wii with the necessary equipment. That is the $249.99 retail package, the Wii box with everything you need. If you find a store that sells extra games, accessories, etc, that is the store’s decision. If that’s your only option, you’ll have to decide if what’s in the forced bundles is worth it to you or not. BTW, the stores rarely cut a discount or raise the price if you buy a bundles. It’s all retail price, but they do it to sell more accessories/games because they get more profit on those than on the system.
– You’ll have to contact stores to see what their policy on selling Wiis is. Maybe your Grandparents can go to one, put money down on it, and it’ll be waiting for you in 5 weeks when you get here. Each store handles sales how they want to. Get out the yellow pages.
– If you find a store that sells them early and requires you to be there and get in line, you’re going to be paying retail $249.99 for it and it’ll be in your hands after the few hours in line. If you want to buy it from eBay, you’re going to pay more than $249.99 (probably closer to $300), you’re going to pay shipping costs, and you’re going to have to wait for it to arrive. That is your choice.
– If you buy from eBay, make sure it is from a reputable seller. Check their feedback. And don’t just look at their feedback number, examine some of it. Read through the reviews, see if they look genuine. Some people are faking their feedback and it’s pretty easy to tell when it’s bogus.
– Nintendo has a 1 year warranty on all new Wiis, wherever they come from. Plus, registering it makes your warrenty a few months longer (it used to, I’m not sure if they still offer this or not). Gamestop and other stores will try to sell you an extended warranty. I didn’t get one, and most don’t need it. That’s up to you if you want to get one or not. If the price of the warranty is $50 bucks or so, I doubt your Wii will have problems that would cost more than that for Nintendo to repaid beyond the 1 year warranty anyway. They have pretty good customer service.
