Wii Internet Cable

Can I connect my Wii to the internet through cable.?
I have internet provided by my cable company. I noticed that there are ports that I could connect my cable box to my Wii from. Would this allow me to get internet instead of running my modem to my Wii. (My wii is upstairs my modem is downstairs). I want to know before I buy a cable to do this.
The Wii has a Wi-Fi adapter built-in, so if you get a Wi-Fi router, you don’t need the cable.
If you want to use the ethernet cable to connect your Wii, you’ll need to get the LAN adapter.
