10 Fun Leisure Family Activities At Home
Family activities in the home used to consist of the basics; TV, board game, or talking. While those options are still valid, there are now other options. Here are 10 ways to share some family fun at home.
• Crafts — Crafts are still a great way to spend hours on a project that doesn’t task your brain while keeping it active. A family project could consist of making Christmas Decorations. If each family member makes 1 ornament or decoration for each other member, everyone will have a memento from each family member. The results will be treasured ornaments and memories.
• Jigsaw Puzzle — Jigsaw puzzles are wonderful activities to get family members together for conversation and fun. Online, you can even order a custom made puzzle from a family picture. Jigsaw puzzles are good bonding material. For a large family, you may have to get two puzzles going
• Time Capsule — Take a sturdy container that won’t deteriorate and fill it with various items that represent the current day, year, or era. The items could also be of a personal nature like photos, letters, or a favorite piece of clothing that no longer fits. Bury the container for 10 years. Get the entire family together for the making and opening.
• Make a video — Make a fun video that might include a plotted story or just a summary of what your life is like. Include interesting asides and comments. You could even make a copy and include it into the previously mentioned time capsule.
• Go swimming — Swimming pools are great places to take the whole family. If your children are big enough and enjoy going on rides, make a drive to the nearest water park for a weekend getaway the kids won’t woon forget!
• Karaoke — Video a “contest” to see who can perform the best version of a song they like. Assign extra points for exact lyrics. Prizes could include a special dinner, a shopping spree, back massage, foot rub, video game, or whatever the winner could suggest. Make a list of desired prizes beforehand.
• Photo Album — If you have one or more, bring them out for a family viewing. If you don’t have one, make one. Each member contributes and each member will love reminiscing. Play some “oldies” in the background.
• Costume party — Have a family costume party with party food and prizes. You’ll be surprised at the costumes chosen.
• Make a snowman – If you live in snow country, get everybody out to make a snowman, or even snowmen, with prizes for the most creative and best classic designs. After, serve hot cocoa with peppermint or cinnamon sticks for stirrers. If it’s summer, start a family garden.
• Video games — The Wii systems have incredible games that accommodate entire families.
• And lastly, don’t forget those previously mentioned board games and movies. Monopoly, Clue, Life, and many others are still as much fun as they always were.
Getting families together is not always easy, but when it happens, wonderful memories are sure to be made. The aforementioned activities will bring in the oldsters as well as the youngsters. Be sure to include a home cooked meal!
