How To Save Games To An Sd R4 Card On The Wii

Using the Wii Data Management menu, you can transfer, add or delete information saved to your Nintendo Wii onto an SD R4 card. This includes saved files, certain downloadable content, and files downloaded from the Wii Message board. It should be noted that only SD cards that are 2GB or less are compatible with the Wii unless you have updated your Nintendo Wii. If you ever connected to the Wii Shop Channel or used any Internet-based Wii Channel, your Wii has been updated.

Insert the SD card into the SD Card Slot on the front of the Nintendo Wii.

Turn the Wii on and wait for the Wii Channel menu to load.

Select the “Wii Settings” icon at the bottom left of the Wii Channel Menu.

Select “Data Management,” “Save Data” and the “Wii” tab to bring up all of the saved data on the machine.

Choose the game you want to save to the SD card. Select “Copy.” Select “Yes” when asked if you want to transfer the game to the SD card.

As you update your Wii and download games, its hard drive becomes full. Fortunately, the Wii can use SD cards for additional storage. If your Virtual Console purchases take up too much space, you can move them to a SD card to regain hard drive space. This guide will show you how to copy channels onto a SD card.

Select Wii Options in the lower-left corner of the main Wii Channel menu.

Select Data Management. The Data Management section of Wii Options gives you access to files stored on the Wii, Game Cube memory card or SD R4 cards.

Select Channels. Games stored on the Wii and SD card are organized as channels along with other Wii content.

Select the channel you want to copy to a SD card in the Wii tab. The Wii tab shows channels that are stored on the hard drive. Channels on the SD card can be viewed in the SD Card tab.

Select Copy in the pop-up window. When you select a channel, you are given the option to Move, Copy or Erase the channel. Selecting Move will fully transfer the channel onto the SD card. Use Copy to retain a copy of the game on the Wii.

Select Yes to copy the channel.

When the channel is copied, select the SD Card tab. If the channel was successfully copied, you will find it in the SD Card tab. You can erase the original file from the Wii hard drive if you want, or keep it as a backup.

Make sure you have the latest Wii System Update so it can read higher-capacity SD cards. Channels on a SD card can be accessed by clicking the SD card icon in the main menu. Channels can be played from an SD card.

Removing the SD R4 card during transfer can corrupt the original copy of the file. Channels launched off the SD card lose some Internet functionality. Saved games cannot be read from a SD card. The Wii allows a maximum of 240 channels per SD card.
